Memorial Resolution
Ralph D. House
(1921 – 2010)

Whereas, The Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association and greater San Francisco Community lost a valuable
member, leader and public servant on November 10, 2010 with the death of Ralph D. House; and

Whereas, Ralph was the founder of the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association, founded in 1985 and served as
President of the Association until 2004; and

Whereas, Ralph dedicated his life to volunteer service advocating for livable neighborhoods, open space and
environmental justice; and

Whereas, Ralph worked diligently with developers to maintain the integrity of the community and to keep new
neighborhoods family focused; and

Whereas, Ralph was vigilant in holding developers and City leaders to their promises and commitments
regarding community benefits and improvements; and

Whereas, Ralph remained keenly aware of ongoing neighborhood issues and concerns until his death; and

Whereas, Ralph was a guardian of open space and insisted on including space for a park as part of development
commitments; and

Whereas, Ralph was honored for his community service and commitment by the City and County of San
Francisco, Department of Recreation and Parks by officially naming the mini-park located at Le
Conte as the Ralph D. House Community Park, on November 18, 2010.

Be it resolved, That on November 17, 2010, the Executive Committee on behalf of the Association membership
honor the life and public service and acknowledge the death of Ralph D. House, President Emeritus of the
Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association. While Ralph’s passing is a loss to the Bayview and greater San
Francisco Community, his legacy remains as residents continue to strive for a higher quality of life in the
Southeast Sector.

Be it further resolved, That the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association notes with great admiration and
appreciation the contributions of Ralph D. House over the course of his distinguished public service career; and
Provides a copy of this resolution to his family members; and
Holds that this resolution will be entered in the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association
permanent records.
